Site-level legal risk controls

Emergency relianceHigh priority

Every legal page and footer should tell visitors Signal RVA is not 911, dispatch, law enforcement, fire, EMS, or an official emergency alert system.

Map and incident accuracyControlled

Live pins can be approximate, delayed, misclassified, duplicated, corrected, or removed. The site should keep precision labels and never promise exact locations.

Home and sensitive-location riskControlled

Exact household-level exposure can create safety and privacy concerns. The takedown process should allow generalization, correction, or removal of public cards.

Scanner and audio riskControlled

Use official embeds or official listen links only. Do not publish captured cookies, private playback URLs, restricted streams, or tactical instructions.

Advertising adjacencyControlled

Sponsor and ad surfaces should avoid graphic accident/crime imagery, emergency exploitation, and any suggestion that sponsors influence incident summaries.

Third-party dataControlled

Traffic, maps, cameras, aviation, rail, dispatch, and weather come from public or third-party sources with their own terms, delays, outages, and restrictions.

Operating Posture

What Signal RVA should keep doing

Keep public summaries factual, brief, and source-aware.
Keep map precision visible and avoid claiming exact address certainty when the source is area-level.
Use official/public source links and avoid exposing private collection mechanics.
Separate sponsor messaging from incident ranking, labels, or summaries.
Review removal requests with a safety-first default for residential or sensitive locations.

User Safety

What visitors must understand

Call 911 for emergencies or immediate danger.
Verify time-sensitive information with official agencies before acting.
Do not use Signal RVA to interfere with responders, follow incidents, harass people, identify victims, or enter restricted areas.
Do not treat traffic, aircraft, scanner, map, or camera data as complete or real-time enough for safety-critical decisions.
